what a week!

slowly moving into my apartment! some photos of the things set up...still have several more pieces of furniture to build.

note to self: never ever buy furniture from ikea. it is a pain the you know what to build!

love my  new bed frame from ikea! i feel like a princess in it :) with shabby chic moni ami sheets and belle hydrangea duvet cover :)

pink roses in the bathroom :) my guy friends call it "old lady" decorations but i don't care!

of course i had to get shabby chic shower curtains and shower hooks :)

i was bad this week...or good depending on how you see it ;) purchased a vintage pale pink chanel purse! pictures to come soon! soooo excited :) and last week i ended up choosing roman holiday rather than sex machine in the nars velvet matte lip pencils...but since i'm addicted to these pencils, i forsee myself purchasing the sex machine color very, very soon!

hope you have a wonderful weekend! love and hugs and lots of pink roses to you! :)

January 21, 2012

slept in, currently snuggled up in bed with a cup of coffee, catching up on some of my fav blogs..what more could i ask for :) living the good life ;) why can't all days be just as fabulous!?

some of my absolute faaaave bloggers i'm obsessed with <3

some people binge eat after a stressful day - i buy too much make-up :) it makes me happy..hahah. today i plan on purchasing a few things from nars. i'm currently head-over-heels in love with their velvet matte lip pencils - they are UH-MAY-ZING! seriously. i've always loved the brand's blushes, and had a superficial dip into their lipsticks several years ago (wasn't impressed with the color i chose so was a bit wary to try more). however, their velvet matte lip pencils have the most amazing texture! soooo lightweight, smooth, and extremely pigmented = LOVE!

i currently own cruella - it's the perfect red for me! up next will be damned and either roman holiday or sex machine :) haven't decided which yet!

oh and i'm currently obessed with a new british comedy my friend introduced to me last night! i cannot get enough of the IT Crowd...HILARIOUS. seriously, check it out! xo

just started watching season 1, so i haven't quite caught up to season 4 yet but will be watching more of this show :)

i've been thinking a lot about happiness these past few weeks. i've been in a new role at work for about 4 months and it has really been difficult and challenging, to say the least. everyone says give a new job 6 months, and i've been struggling to do just that. the opportunities and doors this job creates excites me, however, i feel as if all the problems i face in this position just outweigh the good. i feel i'm at a crossroads, and something has to change and change fast. i wish we didn't define ourselves by our position or title at work. yes, i do this all the time and i wish i didn't. i take a lot of pride in the company i work for, the responsibilities & duties i'm tasked with, and pride even in my job title...but during times like this i have to remind myself my job does not define me...God does. i have a wonderful family, amazing friends, and am blessed beyond belief...yet i've been struggling with happiness these past few months due to the stress of this new job. this is no bueno...

thank GOD for fridays and weekends :) and i'm even in the position that i've almost capped out my vacation time so i am being forced to take a week off from work. yay for time off from work! i'm going to be using that time to move into my new apartment, check emails & catch up on work (yes, i'll still be working on my vacay), take time to rest/recharge & spend some time with God, truly reflect on my happiness, and post a few blog posts - hopefully of my new apartment :)

when i'm feeling stressed, i also recharge by looking at beautiful and inspiring images. i'm very much a visual person. WOW have i rambled on in this post! haha...that is another stress reliever for me :)

hope you have a wonderful, relaxing and blessed weekend! xo

downton abbey...

the edwardian era and the roaring 1920s fascinate me. my absolute favorite era are the georgian and victorian eras, but immediately after that i am in awe of the beginning of the 20th century, going through the 1920s. what mesmerizes me about this time? the most obvious being the fashion during this time...i love the large hats decked with flowers, the gorgeous hairstyles, the pearls, and the jewels. but what fascinates me even more is the rapid transition these people faced...times were changing, and they were changing fast...the telephone?? a commoner marrying someone with a title? women's rights?? year old traditions being challenged? servants deaming of a life of more than servitude?? an all consuming world war, affecting the rich and poor?? and motors transporting people rather than carriages??

my fascination was fueled by the new period drama from across the pond called downton abbey. if you can't already tell, i L-O-V-E, love, love period dramas...and downton abbey fits the bill! series 2 just started up in the US on PBS' masterpiece and i'm sooo excited!!! :) just finished watching the first episode of series 2 tonight :) LOVE IT!

oh lady mary and matthew crawley...sigh :)

read this amazing article about downton abbey on vogue.com here :)

hope everyone has a blessed week!! :) XO

book list. 2012.

this year i'm attempting to pick up one of my favorite pastimes...which in recent years has gone by the wayside. below is a tentative list of the books i will/ want to read this year...hopefully i'll be adding more along the way :)

  1. finish North & South by Elizabeth Gaskell
  2. re-read Jane Eyre by Charlotte Bronte
  3. Emma by Jane Austen
  4. finish The Screwtape Letters by C.S. Lewis
  5. Heaven is for Real by Todd Burpo
  6. finish The Trouble with Mr. Darcy by Sharon Lathan
  7. Magic for Marigold by L.M. Montgomery
  8. Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy
  9. Wives & Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell
  10. A Midsummer Night's Dream by William Shakespeare
as you can see, many novels i've started last year but were placed on hold due to some distraction or another.

below is what i ended up reading in 2011...
  1. Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers (such a great book, i re-read this several times throughout 2011)
  2. Confessions of a Shopaholic by Sophie Kinsella
  3. A Tangled Web by L.M. Montgomery
  4. re-read the Love Comes Softley series by Janette Oke (grew up loving these stories)
...yup not much novel reading was done in 2011, but i'm excited to say i've been reunited with one of my loves :) i'll keep you posted with updates! XO

ps. how amazing are these gorgeously bound classics from anthropologie??

on the hunt for the perfect deep berry lipstick...

hope everyone had a fab and sparkley new year's! mine was a little low key this year at a friend's place. the past 2 new year's eves have been low key, in part to getting sick RIGHT at christmas time and the cold/flu/ bronchitis lingering until new years. the years before i rang in the new year in some fun cities...boston and sf. i think this coming new year's eve will need to be in nyc (best friend just moved there this past summer!!) must.visit.soon.

anyway, onto the real reason for this post - i arrived home from work today to find these beauties at my front door! i don't usually purchase make-up online, but i just didn't want to venture out to the mall after christmas and deal with all the craziness, so online it was! in my previous post i had stated i wanted nars shanghai express (and i still do) but i kept being drawn to scarlett empress. and whenever i purchase things online, i feel weird if i only buy 1 thing...like i'm wasting packaging and shipping fees for just 1 item, so, of course i have to purchase a couple other things (yeah, i'm a little weird like that!).

initial impression? scared. i looked at the BROWN color in the tube and was fairly frightened. i didn't want brown lips...i wanted berry lips! BUT once i applied to my lips (with a good layer of chapstick on my lips), the color turned out to be very berry like and very SHEER. now, i'm not sure if this is in result of my chapstick (although i'm sure it partly is) but this color is a lot less intense than i thought it would be. i like it but i'm not in love with it. it's so sheer i can see this as an everyday lip color for the office. i'm still on the hunt for the perfect deep berry - rachel zoe lip color. i know rachel zoe has her own line of lipstick out but i'm still on the fence about the colors. i may end up purchasing her berry colored one...

also, i have fairly pigmented lips...i think for girls with very light or pink lips, this color would be a fantastic deep berry red! on me though it tends to just emphasize my natural lip color.

top: nars velvet matte lip pencil in cruella
bottom: nars lipstick in scarlett empress

also got the blush in exhibit a! sooo excited to wear this tomorrow. it's an intense orange-red, and i read reviews that when applied correctly onto olive skin tones, the flush it creates is sooo natural!! just like the pinky-red flush children get :) how divine does that sound?? nars blushes have never failed me...well except orgasm..it just does not look fab on my cheeks :( they look gorg on my sister's though and create a very beautiful and natural look for her! i guess it all just depends on your skin tone!

hope you have a fabulous night! :)
